Gourmet Coffee Beans

Gourmet coffee beans are exotic single-bean coffees grown entirely within a certain defined geographical area such as the Dominican Republic’s Karoma Estates, the Indian Budan Peak, or Nicaragua’s Colibri Azul Terroir, or designated areas in Papua New Guinea and the Kona Coastal Region in Hawaii, to name but a few. Single-bean coffees have a distinct and delicious essence, and are available in limited quantities after each growing season.

This concept of terroir is well known in the wine industry but it applies equally to coffee and tea. Terroir can be very loosely translated as “a sense of place,” which embodies the sum of the effects that the local environment has had on the cultivation of the beans. It makes sense because agricultural sites in the same region share similar soil, weather conditions, and farming techniques, which all contribute to the unique qualities of the crop.
